Founders’ Friday (September 2021) – Event Recap

Since July 2018, we’ve been running our Founders’ Friday events every month as a way for self-employed freelancers, startup founders, micro business owners, aspiring entrepreneurs & students to hear about the latest opportunities to start or grow a business in the North East of England.

(It’s also a great way for business advisers, professional services companies, software providers, funders, investors & public sector officials to get closer to startups & small business owners in the region).

Since COVID came along, we’ve been running Founders’ Friday inside our private Facebook Group. To watch them as they happen, join conversations with other Members of our Startup Week Community during the ‘FF lunchtime chat’, give a talk at any of our future events & get free access to all our future events, please join our Community (currently just £75 for an individual ‘Lifetime Membership’).

Here are some of the talks & presentations from our latest event on 24th September:

In this video, Paul talks about the AWE Business Networking event he’d just been to in South Shields, how to get a free digital review, action plan & up to 12hrs of free advice & support for your business or organisation through the Digital Pathfinders programme by emailing, the presentations / talks below from Michelle Jones (Founder, Kind Currency) & Caroline Williamson (Skills Facilitator – North East Ambition, Education Development Trust) & the new Enterprise Hub at Newcastle College which is opening in November.

Kind Currency is an opportunity to change how we live, consume & do business, changing & shaping lives, creating and sustaining a future that is kind. The work they do in their Community Interest Company & Charity is delivered with kindness to solve some of society’s biggest challenges. They make sure our community are empowered by creating opportunities & providing resource for kind people, kind businesses & kind causes. If you like the sound of this, check out the new Kind Currency website & get involved at

North East Ambition is a programme of free support for small to medium-sized enterprises based in the North East of England, designed to ensure local businesses are taking advantage of the opportunities available to them to develop and upskill their workforce. Find out more & get involved at

Want to speak at Founders’ Friday?

We’re always looking for speakers to give a Show & Tell about their business / organisation, take part in a Q&A interview or deliver a Masterclass on a topic that startups or small businesses would find interesting & useful.

How we do this:

  • Speakers send us pre-recorded videos of their talk / presentation / interview which are initially just shared inside our private Facebook Group for Members of our Startup Week Community to see first.
  • The videos are then uploaded to our Newcastle Startup Week YouTube Channel & embedded into a handy ‘Event Recap’ blog (like the ones you can see here)
  • The blog & videos are then shared across all our social media accounts (30,000+ followers) & featured in our email newsletter the following week (just under 3,000 subscribers) so it’s a great way to raise your profile, amplify your reach & promote what you do to our audience!

If you’d like to speak at one of our Founders’ Friday events, you need to join our Startup Week Community first (which is just £75 for an individual ‘Lifetime Membership’) & then email to say you’d like to submit a video.

(Businesses / organisations also have the option of getting ‘Group Membership’ at the reduced price of just £60 per person if they buy 5 or more (i.e. £300). This not only gives them access to our private Facebook Group & the opportunity to speak at Founders’ Friday but also the ability to self-publish blogs / articles on our website whenever they like. If you’re interested in this option, please email me at

Whether you join or not, you might also like to Follow us on Twitter @FoundersFriday & Subscribe to our YouTube Channel to see all our future videos as soon as they go up.
