The North East is a hot bed for talent with opportunities for young people all across the region. The question is, do young people know what is available right now and how to make contact with their future? Well, Monday 13th May 2019 sees an amazing opportunity for young people to do just that as globalbridge will be hosting the very first ‘Future Stars’ event as part of the annual Newcastle Startup Week festival.

globalbridge is an EdTech platform created to digitally connect pathways between education and industry whilst allowing young people the opportunity to showcase their full range of talents, skills and aspirations. Designed by teachers and inspired by students, it bridges the gap between young people and the next steps in their educational and professional lives.

Newcastle Startup Week is a 5-day festival that aims to inspire and help hundreds of people to start or grow their business (or project) in the North East of England. In both 2017 and 2018 the event attracted 600+ delegates from across the UK, Europe, USA and Asia and this year they are aiming for 750+.

Day 1 (‘Inspiration’) of Newcastle Startup Week takes place at George & Robert Stephenson’s historic Boiler Shop venue on Stephenson Quarter behind Newcastle Central Station. As the world’s first purpose-built locomotive factory, which powered the railway industry and industrial revolution in the early 19th century, it’s the perfect venue to showcase the new entrepreneurial revolution taking place right now on Tyneside and the wider North East of England.

globalbridge’s ‘Future Stars’ event will take place in the North East Futures UTC college situated next door, with opportunities for students to be inspired by some of the Newcastle Startup Week speakers and local employers who will help them understand how to make the most of all the exciting opportunities on their doorstep.

‘Ben Mason (Founder of globalbridge) said: “This is an amazing opportunity for young people across the region to be inspired by industry and for industry to engage with and encourage the future stars of the North East.”

Paul Lancaster (Founder & Event Producer, Newcastle Startup Week) said: “We believe the North East is the best place to live, work, study or start a business in the UK and want to use our events to help inspire the next generation to pursue their dreams and fulfil their potential. The ‘Future Stars’ event is the perfect offline example of how globalbridge can help them online so I’m delighted to have them running a student-focused event in association with us on Day 1 of Newcastle Startup Week in May.”

In the next few years all employers are going to struggle increasingly with the challenges of an ageing work force, skills shortages in key areas and gaining efficiencies through increases in productivity. The North East has the opportunity to lead the way in looking to its ‘future stars’ and bridge the gap for both young people and employers. With fantastic keynote speakers and breakout sessions run by some of the biggest employers not only in our region but country wide, the schools and students attending will have an incredible opportunity to realise what motivates them.

“The purpose of this event is to recognise that every student has the opportunity for a successful future. We want to draw out the gold in all young people and inspire them, not only to realise they have the potential, but to also give them the direction, connections and tools to get to where they want to be” added Ben Mason.

The student-focused event will include:

  • Keynote speakers
  • Exhibition stands from some of the region’s leading employers
  • Industry-led breakout sessions with themes including ‘Video selfies in job applications’
  • globalbridge ‘Future Stars’ competition for young entrepreneurs (judged by industry partners)
  • Huge amount of inspiration!
